The SAT is particularly sensitive to IgM antibodies (present in the earlier stages of infection) and the ELISA detects IgG (present in more chronic infections). If either test is positive, the patient is considered serologically positive. If both tests are negative, the patient is considered serologically negative. For the Brucella ELISA, an S/P cut-off value of 1.47 is used, with values greater than or equal to this considered positive and values less than this considered negative.
